Only one week after starting my new job at Panorama, COVID-19 forced our team to start working remotely. Now in my eighth week at the organization, I continue to be in awe of the overwhelming spirit of generosity at Panorama – among leadership and the individual employees on our team. We are a team of diverse problem solvers, who are dedicated to catalyzing social change on a global level. But the team also understands the importance of supporting our local community, especially at a time when life is turned upside down by the global pandemic.
GivingTuesday is a global day of generosity – the Tuesday after Black Friday and Cyber Monday – that kicks off year-end giving. This year, the new #GivingTuesdayNow is an emergency response to the unprecedented needs caused by COVID-19. Here in Washington State, GiveBIG Washington is participating in the 48-hour fundraising campaign to raise money for local non-profits.
Every year, GiveBIG is a chance for us to unite in investing in our community. Non-profits connect with new (and sometimes first-time) donors and volunteers, and donors can double the impact of their gifts through GiveBIG’s matching campaigns. It’s also an opportunity for individuals to learn about the myriad ways that local non-profits enrich our community.
The impact of COVID-19 has been devastating. Financial insecurity, access to food and shelter, mental health services, childcare, and healthcare – these are only some of the issues that a growing number of people now face because of the pandemic. Non-profit organizations have had to quickly pivot and come up with creative solutions for fundraising, transitioning from in-person to online programming, working with reduced staff, revising revenue strategies, and serving more people than ever due to widespread economic hardship and loss.
As we journey together through this uncertain period, now is the time to help your community heal. If you don’t already support a local cause or organization, we encourage you to find one, and give what you can – monetary contributions, virtual volunteering, or pro bono professional services. If you’re based in Washington, take a look at the many organizations on GiveBIG Washington's website.
If you can’t choose a single organization, we encourage you to consider supporting a collaborative fund. By pooling donor resources for organizations supporting similar goals, collaborative funds are a powerful mechanism to achieve greater impact. In response to COVID-19, these funds’ coordinated efforts identify priorities and strategically allocate resources.
This year, Panorama is supporting the Seattle Foundation COVID-19 Response Fund, which is rapidly deploying resources to community-based organizations that support local workers and families most affected by the coronavirus crisis. We are also supporting Angeline’s Day Center for Women at the YWCA, where our team regularly serves lunch when we’re not sheltering in place.
Non-profits make our communities stronger and more resilient. Join Panorama in showing up for the causes you care about. Help ensure that these organizations can meet rising demand, successfully adapt programming, and continue to uplift communities on the other side of this crisis.
